Women's Tennis Blanks WestConn, 9-0

DANBURY, Conn. – The visiting Bridgewater State University women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 Little East Conference (LEC) victory over Western Connecticut State University on Wednesday afternoon at the Westside Courts.

The Bears improve to 7-4 on the season and 5-2 in the Little East with their fourth straight win, while the Wolves fall to 4-10 overall and 1-5 in conference play. Bridgewater State is now 17-2 versus WestConn since the Bears joined the LEC in 2004.

Bridgewater swept the three doubles matches and captured each of the six singles flights in the decisive win.

In doubles play, sophomore Madeline Von Ruden (Ashley Falls, Mass.) and junior Abigail Ramer (Sherwood, Ore.) teamed up for an 8-2 victory at the top spot, while senior Mackenzie Silveira (Middletown, R.I.) and junior Allison Carter (Raynham, Mass.) posted an 8-6 decision at the second flight, and graduate student Vanessa Rosa (Taunton, Mass.) and sophomore Meghan Lotti (Stoneham, Mass.) paired up for an 8-2 triumph at number three.

The pairing of Rosa and Lotti remain unbeaten on the season with a perfect 4-0 record including a 3-0 mark in LEC play.

Von Ruden, Rosa, Carter, Lotti and sophomore Rebecca Hamel (Windham, Maine) each won in straight sets in singles competition at the first (6-2, 6-0), third (6-4, 6-1), fourth (6-3, 6-2), fifth (6-0, 6-3) and sixth (6-2, 6-1) flights, respectively. Ramer split the first two sets at second singles, 6-4, 4-6, before posting a 10-3 decision in the super tie-breaker.

Lotti recorded her team-leading seventh (7-3) singles victory of the season with five (5-2) of the wins coming against Little East opponents.

The Bears are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host non-conference foe Curry College at three o'clock.
