Women's Tennis Downs Southern Maine 9-0 in LEC Match

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 Little East Conference (LEC) victory over visiting University of Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon at the Dr. Henry Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Bears now hold a 3-3 (2-1 LEC) record in the 2022 campaign, while the Huskies drop to 0-6 (0-2 LEC) on the season.

Bridgewater buzzed through the three doubles flights 3-0 and saw victory in all six singles flights 6-0. Southern Maine forfeited the third doubles match, fifth singles match, and sixth singles match.

In doubles play, the Bears top flight duo of Junior Abigail Ramer (Sherwood, Ore.) and Senior Mackenzie Silveira (Middletown, R.I.) blanked the Huskies in an 8-0 win. Junior Allison Carter (Raynham, Mass.) and freshman Yasmine Queen (Waltham, Mass.) teamed up for the 8-3 triumph in the second flight.

The Bears captured all five singles matches on the day. Silveira dominated the first flight by scores of 6-2 and 6-0. Sophomore Rebecca Hamel (Windham, Maine) defeated her opponent 6-4 and 6-1 at number two. Sophomore Meghan Lotti (Stoneham, Mass.) earned the win at number three with scores of 6-2 and 6-1. Queen tallied the victory in the fourth flight, earning scores of 6-3 and 6-0.

Both teams will continue LEC action on Tuesday September 27th at 3:00 PM. Bridgewater State will travel to Boston to take on the Beacons of UMass Boston. Southern Maine will welcome Plymouth State to Portland, as they take on the Panthers.
