Women's Tennis Competes at the International Tennis Hall of Fame Classic

NEWPORT, R.I. -- The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team competed in a series of exhibition matches at the International Tennis Hall of Fame Classic hosted by Salve Regina University and held at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport.

The Bears competed against members of the Salve Regina squad in a series of singles and doubles matches with pro set scoring.

Senior Mackenzie Silveira (Middletown, R.I.) and junior Allison Carter (Raynham, Mass.) picked up wins in singles play. Silveira earned and 8-3 victory while Carter posted an 8-5 decision. Sophomore Madeline Von Ruden (Ashley Falls, Mass.) dropped a tough 8-7 (10-8) decision to former BSU #1, Sailor Nordstrom.

Silveira and Carter teamed up for a pair of doubles wins, 8-1 and 8-2. Von Ruden paired up with junior Abigail Ramer (Sherwood, Ore.) for an 8-5 win at first doubles. Sophomores Rebecca Hamel (Windham, Maine) and Meghan Lotti (Stoneham, Mass.) added an 8-5 triumph in doubles competition.

The Bears went 2-1 in singles play and split eight doubles matches.

In upcoming action, the Bears entertain the University of Southern Maine in a Little East Conference (LEC) match on Saturday afternoon at one.
