Women's Tennis Falls to Roger Williams, 9-0

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's tennis team posted a 9-0 victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Thursday afternoon at the RWU Tennis Courts.

The host Hawks remain unbeaten on the season as they improve to 5-0, while the visiting Bears fall to 2-2. RWU has won each of the last seven meetings of the two teams and is 12-4 versus Bridgewater State since 2005.

Roger Williams captured all three doubles matches and swept the six singles flights.

In doubles play, seniors Emma Place (Francestown, N.H.) and Alessia Cahoon (Dedham, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-4 win at number one, while sophomores Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) and Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) posted an 8-1 decision at the second flight and juniors Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.) and Kate Hardy (Southington, Conn.) combined for an 8-2 triumph at the third spot.

Place, Ferraro, Cahoon, McCarthy, freshman Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Santoro all won in straight sets in singles competition at the first (6-3, 6-3), second (6-2, 6-1), third (6-2, 6-2), fourth (6-3, 6-1), fifth (6-0, 6-0) and sixth (6-1, 6-1) flights, respectively.

Both teams return to the courts on Saturday afternoon. The Bears travel to Rhode Island College for a one o'clock Little East Conference (LEC) match with the defending LEC champion Anchorwomen. The Hawks entertain Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rival Gordon College at noon.
