Women's Tennis Blanks Suffolk, 9-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over visiting Suffolk University on Thursday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Bears improve to 1-1 with their first win of the 2022 campaign, while the Rams fall to 0-2. Bridgewater State is now 12-1 versus Suffolk since 2009 and 9-0 at home.

Bridgewater swept the three doubles flights and each of the six singles flights against the shorthanded Rams. Suffolk forfeited the third doubles match as well as number six singles.

In doubles play, the Bears' top flight pairing of sophomore Madeline Von Ruden (Ashley Falls, Mass.) and junior Abigail Ramer (Sherwood, Ore.) cruised to an 8-1 win, while senior Mackenzie Silveira (Middletown, R.I.) and junior Allison Carter (Raynham, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-4 triumph at the second flight.

Bridgewater captured all five contested singles matches in straight sets. Ramer and Silveira won by identical scores of 6-1, 6-1 at the second and third flights, respectively. Von Ruden posted a 6-2, 6-3 decision at number one, while Carter prevailed 6-2, 6-1 at the fourth spot and sophomore Rebecca Hamel (Windham, Maine) earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory at number five.

The Bears open Little East Conference (LEC) play on Saturday when they travel to Castleton University for a one o'clock match with the Spartans. The Rams are off until next Tuesday afternoon as they head to Rhode Island College to take on the Anchorwomen at four.
