Women's Tennis Opens 2022 Campaign with 7-2 Setback to Regis

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The visiting Regis College women's tennis team opened the 2022 season with a 7-2 victory over Bridgewater State University on Friday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Pride captured two of three doubles matches and five of the six singles flight to earn the win.

In doubles play, Regis freshman Kiana Thompson (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and sophomore Samantha Gevry (Dudley, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-1 win at the number one, while graduate student Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) and junior Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) paired up for an 8-4 decision at the second flight.

Senior Mackenzie Silveira (Middletown, R.I.) and junior Erin Lally (Danvers, Mass.) picked up the Bears' lone doubles point with an 8-4 triumph at the third spot.

Regis also received straight set singles victories from Thompson at number one (6-0, 6-1), Mogelnicki at the second flight (6-1, 6-4), Beatrice at the third spot (6-0, 6-1) and Gevry at number four (6-3, 6-3). Sophomore Harmony Lopez (Carlsbad, N.M.) rounded out the Pride singles winners with a tough, 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 triumph at the fifth flight.

BSU sophomore Meghan Lotti (Stoneham, Mass.) notched her first collegiate win with a 6-1, 7-5 decision at six singles.

Both teams are off until next week. The Bears travel to Eastern Nazarene College on Tuesday afternoon for a three o'clock match with the Lions, while the Pride entertain Roger Williams University on Thursday afternoon at four.
