Women's Tennis Falls to RIC, 9-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to defending Little East Conference (LEC) champion Rhode Island College on Saturday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The visiting Anchorwomen remain unbeaten on the season as they improve to 4-0 (1-0 LEC). The Bears fall to 2-2 overall an 1-1 in conference play. RIC has won each of the last five meetings of the two teams. The Anchorwomen are also 12-11 versus the Bears since BSU joined the Little East in 2004.

RIC swept the three doubles matches and each of the six singles flight.

Reigning Little East Player of the Year Jenna Lisi (Cranston, R.I.) teamed with senior Victoria Vittori (New Bedford, Mass.) for an 8-2 win at the first doubles flight and posted a 6-0, 6-1 straight set victory at number one singles. Vittori also battled to a tough 11-9 tie-breaker win at second doubles over BSU grad student Olivia Sweeney (Taunton, Mass.). Vittori and Sweeney split the first two sets, 6-1, 2-6.

The Bears return to the courts next Saturday when they travel to the University of Southern Maine for a noontime Little East match with the Huskies. The Anchorwomen entertain Suffolk University on Thursday afternoon at 3:30.
