Women's Tennis Opens Little East Play with 6-3 Win over Salem State

SALEM, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team scored a 6-3 victory over Salem State University in the Little East Conference opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon at the Central Campus Tennis Courts.

The Bears took two-of-three doubles matches and four singles flights in improving to 3-1 and 1-0 in the Little East. The Vikings slide to 1-2 and 0-1 in conference.


The Bears' doubles team of Rachael Eramo (Rowley, Mass.) and Alison Vautrin (Somerset, Mass.) posted an 8-2 win at the second flight, while Bojana Roman (Somerset, Mass.) and Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, Mass.) paired up for an 8-4 triumph at the third spot.

The Bears would go on to win the match on the strength of their third through sixth singles players.  Alisha Silva (East Taunton, Mass.), Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, Mass.), Eramo and Roman all scored easy straight set victories at the third through sixth flights, respectively to secure the win.

Jennifer Cleary (Swampscott, Mass.) won in straight sets at first singles for the Vikings. Cleary also teamed up with April McDermott (Tewksbury, Mass.) at first doubles to score an 8-6 decision.  McDermott added a straight set win at second singles.

Salem State will host Worcester State in a conference matchup on Tuesday at the Central Campus Tennis Courts beginning at 3:30 PM. Bridgewater State will travel to Little East foe Western Connecticut for a 4:00 PM match also on Tuesday.
