Women's Tennis Opens 2012 Campaign with 9-0 Shutout of Gordon

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team opened the 2012 season with a convincing 9-0 victory over visiting Gordon College on Thursday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts in Bridgewater.

In doubles action, junior Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, Mass.) and senior Lauren Hopp (Dartmouth, Mass.) posted an 8-2 win at the first flight, while seniors Ashley Pereira (Assonet, Mass.) and Brittney Hislop (Burley, Wash.) won 8-1 at second doubles.  Freshman Alison Vautrin (Somerset, Mass.) and sophomore Rachael Eramo (Rowley, Mass.) gave the hosts a 3-0 lead with an 8-3 decision at number three.

The Bears would go on to win all six singles matches in straight sets led by Williamson's 6-1, 6-0 triumph at the top flight. Also posting singles victories were Pereira at the second spot, Hislop at number three and the rookie Vautrin at the fourth flight.  Hopp and sophomore Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, Mass.) rounded out BSU's singles winners at five and six, respectively.

In upcoming action, Bridgewater entertains Little East Conference foe Plymouth State University on Saturday afternoon at one.  Gordon travels to Wentworth on Saturday for a noontime Commonwealth Coast Conference match with the Leopards.
