Cailey Simard Named Little East Diver & Rookie Diver of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Cailey Simard has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Women's Diver and Rookie Diver of the Week.

Simard captured top honors on the one-meter board and the three-meter board and shattered school records in both events this past weekend in a dual meet with Babson College. The Haverhill, Massachusetts native posted a score of 303.10 points on the one-meter board as she easily eclipsed her own school mark of 276.05 points set earlier last week. Simard also recorded a score of 305.75 points in the three-meter diving competition outdistancing the previous program record of 293.40 points set by BSU Hall of Famer and current Bears' diving coach Jennifer Jackson in 2008.

Earlier in the week, Simard captured top honors on both boards against Division II Bentley University. She posted a record-breaking score of 276.05 points on the one-meter and recorded a score of 289.80 points in the three-meter competition.

Simard has officially qualified for the NCAA Division III North/Northeast Regional Diving Championships in both the one-meter and three-meter competitions. The regional championships will take place on February 24th and 25th at a site to be determined. Simard is the first BSU female diver to qualify for the regional championships and just the second diver in the history of the Bears' swimming & diving program (Andy Fuccillo, 2003).

Simard currently ranks 37th in all of Division III on the three-meter board and 55th on the one-meter.

The LEC Rookie Diver of the Week honor marks the seventh of the season for Simard who has also been selected Diver of the Week six times.

The BSU swimming and diving teams wrap up regular season competition next Saturday when the Bears travel to Plymouth State University to take on the Panthers at noon.
