Cailey Simard Named Little East Diver & Rookie Diver of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Cailey Simard has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Women's Diver and Rookie Diver of the Week.

Simard broke her own school record in the one-meter diving competition and captured top honors on both diving boards as the Bears hosted a tri-meet this past weekend with Brandeis University and Little East Conference rival Keene State College. The Haverhill, Massachusetts native recorded a score of 274.40 points on the one-meter board as she eclipsed her previous BSU mark of 273.75 points set at the BSU Invitational back on December 3rd. Simard also posted a career-best score of 258.85 points on the three-meter.

Earlier this season, Simard officially qualified for the NCAA Division III North/Northeast Regional Diving Championships which will take place on February 24th and 25th. She is the first BSU female diver to qualify for the regional championships and just the second diver in the history of the Bears' swimming & diving program (Andy Fuccillo, 2003).

Simard currently ranks 65th in all of Division III on the one-meter board and 73rd on the three-meter.

The LEC Rookie Diver of the Week honor marks the sixth of the season for Simard who has also been selected Diver of the Week five times.

The BSU swimming and diving teams are back in action on Wednesday evening as the Bears entertain Bentley University at six o'clock.
