Four Bears Named to CSC Academic All-District® One Women's Swimming & Diving Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Four members of the Bridgewater State University women's swimming & diving program have been selected to the 2022-2023 Academic All-District® One Division III Women's Swimming & Diving Team by the College Sports Communicators (CSC).

Earning the honor from Bridgewater State are seniors Gabriella Rivera (Hanover, Mass.) and Danielle Vissering (North Andover, Mass.), junior Jenna Maxim (Lakeville, Mass.) and sophomore Brynn Murray (Chelmsford, Mass.).

The Bears accounted for four of the 13 student-athletes from the Little East Conference (LEC) named to the Academic All-District® One Division III Women's Swimming & Diving Team.

The 2022-2023 Academic All-District® Women’s Swimming & Diving Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes swimming & diving honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

To be eligible for all-academic honors, a student-athlete must be a significant contributor, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at her current institution and be nominated by her sports information director. A student-athlete must have also competed in at least 50% of the team's contests for the 2022-2023 season.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-March.

Rivera, who hails from Hanover, Massachusetts, is an elementary education major with a 3.90 grade point average. A native of North Andover, Massachusetts, Vissering is also majoring in elementary education and checks in with a 3.76 GPA. Maxim, who calls Lakeville, Massachusetts home, currently sports a 3.85 GPA while majoring in health science. A Chelmsford, Massachusetts product, Murray is majoring in elementary education while maintaining a 3.93 GPA.

Rivera, Vissering, Maxim and Murray helped the BSU women's swimming & diving team place second at the Little East Championships earlier this month.

Rivera finished 15th in the 100 breaststroke at the Little East Championships, while Vissering placed fourth in the 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay, fifth in the 50 freestyle, ninth in 100 free and 12th in the 200 free. Maxim swam a leg on the Bears' fourth-place 200 medley relay and finished sixth in both the 100 individual medley and 200 backstroke as well as ninth in the 100 backstroke. Murray earned All-Little East honors with a second-place performance in the 800 free relay. She also placed fourth in both the 200 free relay and 200 medley relay, fifth in the 200 free and 200 backstroke, and seventh in the 200 butterfly.

The BSU swimming and diving teams had a total of 119 event performances at the Little East Championships. Out of the 119 performances (swimming and diving), 115 of them (97%) were season-best times or marks.
