Women's Swimming & Diving Places Second at Little East Championships

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's swimming & diving team finished in second place at the 2023 Little East Conference (LEC) Swimming & Diving Championships on Sunday at the Boston Sports Institute in Wellesley.

The Bears wrapped up the four-day championship meet with 692 points. Defending champion Keene State College captured the conference title for the 16th straight season and 19th time overall as the Owls recorded 830.5 points. Eastern Connecticut State University rounded out the top three teams with 583.5 points.

Senior Hannah Geoffrion (Barnstable, Mass.) placed second in the 200 butterfly with a career-best time of 2:23.58. Junor Olivia Ranck (Wilbraham, Mass.) posted a season-best time of 1:03.58 to finish second in the 100 individual medley, while sophomores Brynn Murray (Chelmsford, Mass.), Brianna Matte (Cumberland, R.I.), Olivia Pelletier (East Kingston, N.H.) and freshman Emily Bradford (Pittsfield, Mass.) placed second in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 8:36.09.

Freshman Cailey Simard (Haverhill, Mass.) paced the Bears at the four-day championship meet with a pair of gold medals in the one-meter and three-meter diving competitions. She set school and meet records on both boards and was named the Little East Women's Diver and Rookie Diver of the Year. Simard will compete at the NCAA Division III Northeast/North Regional Diving Championships on Friday, February 24th and Saturday, February 25th at New York University.

BSU head coach Mike Caruso was selected as the Little East Women's Coach of the Year.

The BSU swimming and divings teams had a total of 119 event performances at the Little East Championships, (all relay events, all swim events, and all diving events). Out of the 119 performances, 115 of them were a season best for a whopping 97%.
