Simard Captures Three-Meter Title, Breaks School & Meet Record at LEC Championships

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Cailey Simard (Haverhill, Mass.) captured the conference title and broke both the school and meet record in the three-meter diving competition on Thursday at the Little East Swimming & Diving Championships held at the Wellesley College Chandler Pool.

Simard posted an 11-dive score of 433.55 points in the finals to win the event. Her preliminary score of 440.40 points shattered the previous three-meter meet record of 334.35 points set by Westfield State's Kara Banagan just last season. Simard also eclipsed the Bears' program mark of 384.05 points set by BSU Hall of Famer and current diving coach Jennifer Jackson back in 2008.

BSU senior Angelina Vuong (Rockland, Mass.) placed fourth in the three-meter diving competition with a score of 239.40 points.

The four-day Little East Swimming & Diving Championships will continue on Friday with preliminaries getting underway at 10:00 AM.
