Simard Breaks One-Meter Diving Mark, Qualifies for Regionals on Three-Meter

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Freshman diver Cailey Simard (Haverhill, Mass.) broke her own school record on the one-meter board and qualified for the NCAA Regional Diving Championships on the three-meter to lead the Bridgewater State University women's swimming & diving team in a dual meet against Bentley University on Wednesday evening at the Moriarty Pool.

The Bears (4-7) dropped a 177-62 decision to the Division II Falcons (10-1).

Simard captured top honors on both boards. She posted a score of 276.05 points on the one-meter as she eclipsed her previous school mark for a six-dive event of 274.40 points set this past weekend. Simard also recorded a career-best score of 289.80 points in the three-meter competition as she was less than four points shy of BSU Hall of Famer and diving coach Jennifer Jackson's program mark of 293.40 points.

Simard has now officially qualified for the NCAA Division III North/Northeast Regional Diving Championships on both the one-meter and three-meter boards. The regional diving championships will take place on February 24th and 25th at a site to be determined.

Sophomore Olivia Pelletier (East Kingston, N.H.) place third in both the 200 freestyle (2:12.97) and the 100 freestyle (1:00.25). Her time of 2:12.97 in the 200 free marked a personal best.

Senior Danielle Vissering (North Andover, Mass.) placed third in the 50 freestyle (26.90), while classmate Selin Marino (East Greenwich, R.I.) finished third in the 1,000 freestyle with a season-best time of 12:39.26.

The BSU swimming and diving teams are back in action on Saturday afternoon as the Bears entertain Babson College at 1:30.
