Bonney Leads Women's Swimming & Diving at NEISDA Championships Day Three

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Senior Megan Bonney (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) captured a NEISDA individual title and had a hand in three school records to lead the Bridgewater State University women's swimming & diving team during day three of the 2020 New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships on Saturday at the URI Tootell Aquatic Center.

Bonney placed first in the 50 butterfly with a school record time of 26.18 seconds. She eclipsed her own previous mark of 26.98 seconds set last year.

Bonney also swam a leg on the Bears' record-setting 200 medley relay team as well as the record-setting 200 freestyle relay squad. Both relays earned All-NEISDA honors.

Bonney, classmates Mackenzie Coogan (Assoney, Mass.) and Adi Tobias (North Attleboro, Mass.), and sophomore Makayla Paquin (North Easton, Mass.) posted a third-place time of 1:52.17 in the 200 medley relay. The foursome eclipsed the previous program standard of 1:52.67 set last year.

The quartet of Bonney, Coogan, junior Allison Hunt (Norton, Mass.) and sophomore Danielle Vissering (North Andover, Mass.) finished third in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:39.43. They bettered the former BSU mark of 1:40.61 also set last year.

Senior Alexa Wilson (Centerville, Mass.) and sophomore Selin Marino (East Greenwich, R.I.) rounded out the Bears' All-NEISDA performers on Saturday. Wilson placed fifth in the one-meter diving competition with a finals score of 335.30 points, while Marino finished eighth in the 1,000 freestyle (11:32.56).

The Bears are in fourth place out of 21 teams in the standings with 511.5 points heading into the fourth and final day of the championship meet.

The four-day championship event wraps up on Sunday morning with the preliminary round getting underway at ten.
