Women's Swimming & Diving Wins BSU Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's swimming & diving team captured the team title as the Bears hosted the BSU Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Moriarty Pool.

The Bears, who placed first in 11 of the 20 events, posted a score of 715 points as they easily outdistanced second place Norwich University (370 pts.). Western New England University (333 pts.) and Gordon College (188 pts.) rounded out the team scoring.

The foursome of sophomore Makayla Paquin (North Easton, Mass.), junior Allison Hunt (Norton, Mass.) and seniors Megan Bonney (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) and Mackenzie Coogan (Assonet, Mass.) opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay (1:39.96).

Coogan, Paquin, Hunt and Bonney would go on to close out the meet by winning the 200 freesetyle relay with a time of 1:45.43.

Bonney also captured top honors in both the 50 butterfly (27.29) and the 50 freestyle (25.39), while Paquin was the first touch the wall in the 100 backstroke (1:04.27) and the 50 backstroke (30.43).

The Bears also received individual victories from Coogan in the 100 freestyle (57.19), Hunt in the 200 breaststroke (2:40.87), freshman Mia Esterman (Easton, Mass.) in the 500 freestyle (5:49.72) and freshman Hannah Geoffrion (Barnstable, Mass.) in the 100 butterfly (1:05.38).

The Bears are off until Saturday, January 18th when they travel to Brandeis University for a tri-meet featuring the host Judges as well as Keene State College.
