Women's Swimming & Diving Downs Regis College, 157.5-57.5

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's swimming and diving team placed first in 11 of 12 events as the host Bears downed Regis College, 157.5-57.5, on Friday night at the Mary Jo Moriarty Pool in Bridgewater.

The meet marked the home opener for Bridgewater (1-1) and first year head coach, Mike Caruso, as well as the first dual meet of the season for Regis (0-1).

Sophomore Chelsea Nolan (Lowell, Mass.) and freshman Taylor Brochu (Cotuit, Mass.) each won a pair of individual events for the Bears.  Nolan placed first in the 1,000 freestyle (12:00.03) and 500 freestyle (6:08.22), while Brochu was the first to touch the wall in the 50 freestyle (27.41) and 100 backstroke (1:07.24).

Brochu also swam a leg on the Bears' first place 200 freestyle relay squad (1:51.04) along with classmate Sarah Rechtiene (Southbury, Conn.) and sophomores Ariel Gillis (Blackstone, Mass.) and Nelia Borden (Fall River, Mass.).

Rechtiene also placed first in the 200 freestyle (2:17.51) while Borden took top honors in the 100 freestyle (1:00.84).

BSU juniors Bridget Hasson (Milton, Mass.) and Rhiannon White (Falmouth, Mass.), sophomore Ashley Dunican (Bennington, Vt.) and freshman Kendra Perry (Middleboro, Mass.) grabbed the top spot in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:13.06.

Perry also earned a victory in the 200 individual medley (2:29.50). 

Freshman Kristen Carey (East Taunton, Mass.) won the 100 butterfly event (1:10.05), and classmate Christina Minich (Wellesley, Mass.) recorded a top score of 185.80 points on the one-meter diving board.

Regis' lone win came in the 100 breaststroke as freshman Haley Bowen (Litchfield, N.H.) posted a time of 1:16.48.

Bridgewater will host a dual meet with Clark University on Saturday at 4:00 PM.
