Women's Swimming & Diving Falls to Elms, 141-125

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's swimming and diving team dropped a 141-125 decision to visiting Elms College on Thursday afternoon at the Mary Jo Moriarty Pool in Bridgewater.

Elms improves to 5-1 in dual meet competition with the win, while Bridgewater falls to 1-8.

Freshman Devon DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.) paced the visitors with three individual victories.  DeGrazia placed first in the 200 freestyle (2:05.69), 50 freestyle (:26.34) and 100 backstroke (1:04.20). She also swam a leg on the winning 200 medley relay squad (2:02.62) along with classmate Ashley Kirchner (Dalton, Mass.), junior Katie Roberts (Torrington, Conn.) and sophomore Chalis Bird (Windsor, Mass.).

Sophomore Loren Phinney (Holbrook, Mass.) and freshman Samantha Capone (Dracut, Mass.) led the way for Bridgewater State with two individual wins apiece.  Phinney touched first in the 50 backstroke (:31.12) and 500 freestyle (5:53.48), while Capone won both diving events with scores of 142.35 points on the one-meter board and 165.90 points on the three-meter.

Phinney also competed on the Bears' winning 200 freestyle relay team (1:55.59) along with  classmate Bridget Hasson (Milton, Mass.) and juniors Lauren Gale (Norwich, Conn.) and Caroline McMillan (Whitman, Mass.).  Hasson also added a victory in the 50 butterfly (:30.87).
