Women's Swimming Falls to UMass Dartmouth, 158-130

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Sophomore Loren Phinney (Holbrook, Mass.) won three events to lead the Bridgewater State University women's swimming and diving team at a dual meet hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday night.

Visiting Bridgewater dropped a 158-130 decision to UMass as the Bears fell to 1-3 in dual meet competition on the season.  The Corsairs even their record at 2-2.

Phinney placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.30), 50 freestyle (27.02) and 100 backstroke (1:06.51) events.  She was the only competitor who won three individual events at the meet.

Individual winners for UMass included sophomore Cecilia Rius in both the one-meter diving (189.20 pts) and the three-meter diving (169.60 pts) events.  Sophomore Morgan Cooper won both the 50-yard butterfly (28.86) and the 100 butterfly (1:03.65), while sophomore Lindsay Days won the 50-yard breaststroke in 35.72 seconds and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:20.20.  Sophomore Meredith Maki placed first in 50-yard backstroke (32.03) and the 1000 freestyle (12:18.93). The 200-yard medley relay team of Maki, sophomore Maggie Conlon, Cooper and junior Brittany Dupuis finished first in 2:02.02.

Both teams will return to action at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday.
