Women's Swimming Drops 162-103 Decision to Assumption

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- In their opening meet of the 2009-2010 season, the Bridgewater State College women's swimming and diving team dropped a 162-103 decision to visiting Assumption College this evening from the Moriarty Pool in Bridgewater.

Assumption won nine of the 15 events and  posted 12 second place finishes to take the meet going away. 

Freshman Jennifer Ryan (Weston, FL) paced the Greyhounds with four victories.  Ryan placed first in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.18), 200 breaststroke (2:45.66) and 200 individual medley (2:22.33), and swam a leg on the winning 400 medley relay team (4:24.25).

Freshman Loren Phinney had an outstanding debut for the Bears as she won three events.  The Holbrook, Massachusetts native finished in first place in the 200 freestyle (2:01.26), 50 freestyle (:25.87) and 200 backstroke (2:18.45).

Junior Renee Marcos (Lakeville, MA) was victorious on the one-meter diving board as she posted a score of 158.80 points.  Marcos also swam a leg on the Bears first place 200 freestyle relay team (1:54.71).

Bridgewater will host a men's and women's meet versus Regis College on Wednesday, November 4th at 6:30 PM.  Assumption will compete in the Saint Joseph's College Pentathlon tomorrow at 1 PM.
