Jackson Sets Diving Marks as Bears Split Dual Meet with Babson

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Senior Jennifer Jackson (Randolph, MA) had a memorable senior night as she set a pair of school diving records to lead the Bridgewater State College men's and women's swimming and diving teams to a split of a dual meet with Babson College on Thursday night at the Mary Jo Moriarty Pool in Bridgewater.

The BSC women soundly defeated Babson to the tune of 196-92 while the BSC men were edged out by the score of 112-94. With the win, the Bridgewater women wrap up the dual meet portion of the season with a record of 8-4 while the men finish up at 1-8.

Jackson posted a score of 263.05 on the one-meter board to eclipse Kristine Soen's previous mark of 252.0 set back in 1998. She then broke her own record on the three-meter board with a score of 293.4. Jackson had previously set the record last season at Keene State College with a score of 277.35.

The only other senior on the BSC roster, Alex Mulcahy (Natick, MA), also had a stellar night as he won three events. Mulcahy placed first in the 500-yard freestyle posting a time of 5:33.09. He also swam on a pair of winning relay teams. He helped the Bears open the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay (1:49.08), and then ended the night by anchoring Bridgewater's winning 200-yard freestyle relay team (5:33.09).

Also highlighting the meet for the Bears was junior Sarah Fuller (Palmer, MA) who won a pair of events. Fuller placed first in the 200-freestyle (2:08.07) as well as the 100-freestyle (:59.01).

Junior Jillian Coache (New Bedford, MA) and Erica Robinson (Lynn, MA) also won a pair of events. Coache won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.86, while Robinson took first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:06.53. They each also swam on the Bears' winning 200-yard medley relay squad (2:00.86) along with junior Katrina Scholtz (Amesbury, MA) and sophomore Bryn Morwick (Indianapolis, IN). 

Junior Mauer Desai (Pittsfield, MA) also picked up three wins on the night for the men's team. Individually he placed first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of :59.47. He also joined Mulcahy on the two winning relay teams.

Up next for both teams will be the New England Division II-III Swimming and Diving Championships. The ladies will compete on February 15th, 16th, 17th at UMass Dartmouth while the men head to Roger Williams on the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th.
