Sydney Dewhurst Named MASCAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University senior defender Sydney Dewhurst has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.

Dewhurst potted the game-winning goal in the Bears’ 1-0 MASCAC win over Salem State University last week to help the Bears remain undefeated in league action. The East Bridgewater, Massachusetts native helped anchor a BSU defensive unit that allowed just five shots on goal in a pair of 1-0 shutout victories over the Vikings and Lesley University.

Through 11 games this season, Dewhurst has notched five goals and an assist for 11 points. Four of her team-leading five goals have been game-winners.

Dewhurst currently leads the MASCAC in game-winning goals and is tied for third in goals. She is also tied for fifth among the conference leaders in scoring.

On a national level, Dewhurst is tied for eight in all of Division III with her four game-winning goals.

In 19 games over two seasons with the Bears, Dewhurst has amassed eight goals (five game-winners) and four assists for 20 points.

Dewhurst also earned MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week honors on September 25th.

The BSU women's soccer team is currently 6-4 on the season and tied for first in the MASCAC standings with a perfect 4-0 conference mark. The Bears entertain regional power Tufts University on Tuesday night at seven o'clock.
