Women's Soccer Team Garners United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's soccer program was recognized today by the United Soccer Coaches (USC) as one of 801 teams (307 men, 494 women) across all three Divisions to earn the Team Academic Award for the 2022-2023 academic year.

The Bridgewater State women's team is the only soccer program in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) to earn such recognition.

In order to garner the Team Academic Award, a squad must post a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher for the academic year.

Under head coach Yasmina Carvalho, the BSU women's soccer team posted an impressive 3.51 team GPA during the 2022-2023 academic year. This marks the second straight year that the Bears earned the USC Team Academic Award.

Individually, the Bears saw 22 team members earn MASCAC Fall/Winter All-Academic honors in 2022-2023. Seniors Michelle Belcher (Norton, Mass.), Erin Clancey (Middletown, R.I.), Monica Eires (New Bedford, Mass.), Delaney Langton (Scituate, R.I.), Kelly Powers (Stoneham, Mass.) and Tori Viola-Laughery (Brockton, Mass.) each garnered the accolade as well as juniors Megan Keller (Northborough, Mass.), Makenna Lessard (East Bridgewater, Mass.), Audra McDuffie (Millbury, Mass.), Stephanie Spear (Blackstone, Mass.) and Abigail Valdez (North Attleboro, Mass.); sophomores Bailey Brown (Plymouth, Mass.), Mia Chrisafideis (Marlborough, Mass.), Tori Gemellaro (Wilmington, Mass.), Tristen Gomes (Middleboro, Mass.), Cheyenne Nelson (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and Sydney Sousa (Dartmouth, Mass.); and freshmen Logan Levesque (Bristol, R.I.), Olivia Robarge (Pepperell, Mass.), Lauren Sellmayer (North Easton, Mass.), Abigail Shea (Somerset, Mass.) and Jenna Sweeney (Wilmington, Mass.).
