Delaney Langton Named MASCAC Women's Soccer Rookie of the Year

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University freshman forward Delaney Langton has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Soccer Rookie of the Year by the league's head coaches.

Langton played in 17 games and made 16 starts in her rookie campaign. The Scituate, Rhode Island native was an integral part of the Bears offense this year with five goals and three assists for 13 points.

"Delaney is one of the hardest working freshman I've ever had the pleasure of coaching," noted BSU Head Coach Yasmina Carvalho. "Right when she stepped onto the Bridgewater State field, we knew she was going to bring a certain type of fire and energy through her play."

"Delaney's ability to adapt to multiple positions and our coaching style made her that much more effective on the field," Carvalho added.

Langton is the Bears' first MASCAC Rookie of the Year since Courtney Maloney in 2006, and the fourth since 1997. BSU Hall of Famer Kim Rhodes was named MASCAC Rookie of the Year in 2000 while her sister Michelle Rhodes earned the honor in 2001.

The BSU women's soccer team posted an overall record of 9-6-2 in 2018 with a 5-1-1 mark in MASCAC play. Seeded second at the conference tournament, the Bears dropped a semifinal round match to #3 Westfield state, 2-1.
