BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The visiting Roger Williams University women's soccer team posted a 2-1 non-conference win over Bridgewater State University on Wednesday night at Swenson Field.

The Hawks improve to 5-5-2 on the season, while the host Bears fall to 3-3-4.

All the scoring came in the first half.

The Bears took a 1-0 lead on freshman forward Alana Vincent's (Taunton, Mass.) fourth goal of the season in the 20th minute. Senior midfielder Drew Guay (Fall River, Mass.) split two defenders with a perfectly placed pass to Vincent coming down the right side. Vincent collected the ball in stride and beat the goaltender with a shot inside the far post.

Senior midfielder Jenna Hart (Cheshire, Conn.) potted the equalizer for the Hawks in the 30th minute. Hart corralled the ball on the right side, beat a defender, dribbled uncontested into the box and ripped a shot inside the near post.

Junior midfielder Kasey Provost (Peabody, Mass.) gave Roger Williams the 2-1 lead off an assist from freshman midfielder Alli Santacroce (Burlington, Conn.) in 36th minute. Santacroce flipped a shot from ten yard out towards the far post that the BSU keeper misplayed, and the ball found its way into the net.

Freshman forward Kylie Casey (East Longmeadow, Mass.) nearly gave the Hawks a two-goal lead in the waning seconds of the first half as her point-blank range shot was turned aside by BSU junior goaltender Lauren DeSousa (Taunton, Mass.).

In the second half, Vincent ripped a low shot on frame from 25 yards out in the 56th minute that was smothered by the RWU goaltender. Vincent also sailed a shot wide from nearly the same spot in the 61st minute.

Roger Williams held a 20-10 shot advantage including a 12-4 edge in the second. There were only five corner kicks in the game, three for the visitors.

Junior goaltenders Natalie O'Donovan (Quincy, Mass.) and Sydney Martin (Scarborough, Maine) split the game between the pipes for the Haws as they each played a half and made one save apiece.

DeSousa turned aside six shots in goal for the Bears.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday afternoon. The Bears travel to Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) rival Salem State University for a one o'clock game with the Vikings, while the Hawks entertain Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rival Western New England University at 12:30.
