BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's soccer team blanked visiting Framingham State University, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at rain-soaked Swenson Field.

The Bears improve to 3-2-4 on the season and 2-0-1 in the MASCAC, while the Rams fall to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Junior forward Nicole Simas (Dartmouth, Mass.) potted her first goal in a BSU uniform in the 24th minute to give the Bears a 1-0 lead. Off a throw in, senior forward Marissa Yowell (Ashland, Mass.) chipped the ball over the Framingham defense and Simas delivered a shot over the FSU netminder and into the right side of the net.

Freshman midfielder Tess Nagle (Pembroke, Mass.) increased the Bears' advantage to 2-0 in the 33rd minute with her first collegiate goal. Sophomore defender Caitlin Rowley (Lakeville, Mass.) set up the marker as she served a long volley into the box. Nagle beat the goalie to the ball and slipped a shot into the wide open net.

BSU junior goalkeeper Lauren DeSousa (Taunton, Mass.) notched her fifth solo shutout of the year and 12th over the last two seasons. DeSousa made seven saves on the afternoon with five of those coming in the second half.

Sophomore netminder Keyonzia Gagne-Lamoureux (East Brookfield, Mass.) made two saves and allowed one of the two BSU goals in 74 minutes of action for the Rams.

Framingham held a 15-11 shot advantage for the game including an 11-4 edge in the second half. Corner kicks were even at four apiece.

The Rams best scoring opportunities came over the final 45 minutes. Freshman forward Jana Paecht (Holliston, Mass.) was stopped by DeSousa off a corner kick just two minutes into the period. Junior defender Haley McKay (Quincy, Mass.) also had a pair of header shots off corner kicks that were turned aside by DeSousa, while senior defender Angela Pallotta (Sterling, Mass.) rang one off the post in the 64th minute.

Both teams are back in action on Wednesday with non-conference game. The Bears host the Hawks of Roger Williams University at seven o'clock, while the Rams travel to Salve Regina University for a 3:30 game with the Seahawks.
