BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Freshman forward Alana Vincent (Taunton, Mass.) notched a hat trick to lead the Bridgewater State University women's soccer team to a 5-0 shutout victory over visiting Massachusetts Maritime Academy in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) tilt on Saturday afternoon at Swenson Field.

The shutout marked Bridgewater's fifth straight straight as the Bears eclipsed the program record of four consecutive shutouts set in 1990 and equaled in 1992.

The host Bears improve to 2-2-3 on the season and 1-0-1 in the MASCAC, while the Buccaneers fall to 4-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Vincent got the Bears on the board in the sixth minute of play with her first collegiate goal as she converted a cross from junior midfielder Courtney Pepin (Uxbridge, Mass.). That would be all the scoring in the first half as the Bears held a 1-0 lead at the break.

Pepin and Vincent combined again to increase the BSU advantage to 2-0 in the 58th minute. Pepin slipped a short cross to the front of the net and Vincent buried a shot inside the near post.

Vincent completed the hat trick in the 62nd minute as she scored off the rebound of a Tess Nagle (Pembroke, Mass.) shot.

Senior forward Marissa Yowell (Ashland, Mass.) potted her first goal of the season in the 71st minute to increase the Bears' lead to 4-0. Sophomore midfielder Taylor Loyd (Halifax, mass.) set up the goal with a chip over the defense . Yowell corralled the ball and chipped it over the charging goaltender.

Sophomore forward Madeline McNamara (Hull, Mass.) rounded out the scoring with her first collegiate goal in the 84th minute. McNamara went in alone on a breakaway attempt after beating a defender and slipped a shot inside the right post.

Bridgewater held a 29-1 shot advantage for the game as well as a 10-3 edge in corner kicks.

BSU junior netminder Lauren DeSousa (Taunton, Mass.) made one save as she played a little over 70 minutes. DeSousa combined with freshman Kellie Souza (Wilmington, Mass.) on the shutout. Souza did not face a shot.

DeSousa extended her scoreless streak to 566 minutes and 41 seconds.

Mass. Maritime freshman Sara Coffey (Norton, Mass.) made six saves in the setback.

In upcoming action, the Bears host the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth next Thursday night at seven, while the Buccaneers travel to Fisher College on Tuesday night for a seven o'clock match with the Falcons.
