Lane Nets Winner in OT to Lift Women's Soccer to 1-0 Win over MCLA

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Sophomore forward Emily Lane (Parsonfield, Maine) scored in the 94th minute to lift the Bridgewater State University women's soccer team to a 1-0 overtime win over Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) rival MCLA on Saturday afternoon at Swenson Field.

Bridgewater improves to 8-7-2 on the season and 4-1-1 in the MASCAC, while MCLA falls to 5-9 overall and 2-4 in conference play.  The Bears are tied for second in the MASCAC standings along with Worcester State University.

Lane converted a terrific feed from freshman forward Mackenzie Hatfield (Whitman, Mass.) to give the Bears the conference win.  Hatfield slid a pass to a cutting Lane from just outside the 18 and Lane easily deposited a shot inside the far post.

The Bears dominated play for most of the game, outshooting the visiting Trailblazers by a margin of 31-2 and holding an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.

MCLA sophomore keeper Danielle Heinsohn (Norfolk, Mass.) was terrific throughout the game as she made 11 saves to keep the Bears off the scoreboard through regulation.

BSU senior netminder Kristen Rowe (Burlington, Mass.) came on to start the second half and played the rest of the way to pick up her first win of the season.  Rowe faced just one shot and did not have to make a save.  Junior Kerry Condon (Whitman, Mass.) started in goal for the Bears and turned aside one shot over the first 45 minutes.

The Bears will wrap up regular season play next Saturday afternoon when they host MASCAC leader Westfield State University at 4:30.  MCLA entertains non-conference foe Sage on Monday afternoon at three.
