Women's Soccer Drops 4-0 Decision to Keene State

KEENE, N.H. -- Four different players scored for the Keene State College women's soccer team in its 4-0 non-conference shutout victory over Bridgewater State University at Owl Athletic Complex on Wednesday night.

Bouncing back from a tough 2-1 overtime loss to Eastern Conn. on Saturday, the Owls (9-6) scored two goals in each half to post their eighth win its last nine games.  Bridgewater State falls to 6-7-2.

The Bears defense kept the Owls off the board in the opening minutes of the game when junior Taylor Robitaille (Ludlow, Mass.) was able to chase down KSC senior Elise Bolster (Narragansett, R.I.), who was looking to score on a breakaway attempt,

Keene State did score less than a minute later to take a 1-0 lead.  Sophomore Alex Haley (Laconia, N.H.) jumped on a loose ball and, after dribbling through traffic, unleashed a shot into the top left corner of the net for her first goal of the season.

Keene State was awarded a penalty kick after senior Brittany Croteau (Swanzey, N.H.) had her legs take out from under her in the box.  Junior Brittany Boscarino (Ellington, Conn.) took the kick, putting the ball in the short side of the net to give KSC a 2-0 lead with 7:36 to play in the half.

Bridgewater senior goalie Kristen Rowe (Burlington, Mass.) kept it a two goal game making consecutive saves on Haley and freshman Shannon Summers (Keene, N.H.) with six minutes to go.

In the second half, junior Jessica Berthiaume (Worcester, Mass.) scored her seventh goal of the season on a rebound and freshman Ellen Granata (North Hampton, N.H.) netted her first college goal when her shot from 20-yards out hit off the crossbar and fell into the net.

A stifling Owl defense limited the Bears to just one shot on goal the entire game.  Keene State finished with a wide 26-5 lead in overall shots and had a slim 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Sophomore Torrie Crenson (North Salem, N.Y.) need just one save to notch her second shutout of the season.  Rowe and junior Kerry Condon (Whitman, Mass.) each played a half in goal for BSU.  Rowe made five save while Condon stopped four shots.

Junior Caley McClendon, a Keene native, was playing her first game at Owl Athletic Complex since her days at Keene High.  "The last time I played here it was my senior night game three years ago, said McClendon, who was in the Bears' starting line-up.  "I grew up watching Keene State play, so it was cool playing against them.  I love Irish (KSC Coach Denise Lyons), she's an awesome coach, but I really wanted to leave the area and find my own way outside of Keene."

Both teams return to conference play.  The Owls travel to Rhode Island College on Saturday (1 p.m.) and Bridgewater State will be at Mass. Maritime on Friday (6 p.m.).
