Jonasson's Hat Trick Leads Women's Soccer to 10-0 Win over Fitchburg

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Sophomore forward Erica Jonasson (Wrentham, Mass.) notched her first career hat trick to lead the Bridgewater State University women's soccer team to a 10-0 victory over Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday at Swenson Field.

Eight different players scored for the host Bears who improve to 4-2-1 on the season and 1-0 in the MASCAC. The Falcons fall to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Bridgewater led 7-0 at the half as Jonasson scored all three of her goals, including the first two of the game, in the opening stanza. Junior midfielder Katie Nasuti (Millbury, Mass.), senior forward Molly Copeland (North Falmouth, Mass.) and freshman forwards Mackenzie Hatfield (Whitman, Mass.) and Olivia Planty (Litchfield, N.H.) also notched first half markers for the Bears. For Planty, it was her first collegiate goal.

Junior forwards Caley McClendon (Keene, N.H.) and Olivia Creonte (Waltham, Mass.) and freshman defender MaryRose Griffin (Whitman, Mass.) rounded out the scoring in the second half with Griffin's goal, her first collegiate marker, coming off a penalty kick. The goal for Creonte was also her first in a BSU uniform.

Copeland, McClendon and Creonte all finished with a goal and an assist. The ten goals marked the most in a game for Bridgewater State since a 10-0 win at home over Mass. Maritime Academy on Halloween in 2009.

Junior Kerry Condon (Whitman, Mass.) and senior Kristen Rowe (Burlington, Mass.) split the game between the pipes for the Bears with Condon posting her fourth win of the season. Rowe made Bridgewater's only save as the Bears held a 23-4 shot advantage.

In upcoming action, Bridgewater travels to Rhode Island College on Tuesday night for a six o'clock game with the Anchorwomen. Fitchburg travels to UMass Boston also on Tuesday for a 3:30 match with the Beacons.
