Women's Soccer Edged by UMass Boston, 3-2

BOSTON, Mass. – The UMass Boston women's soccer team rallied from a two-goal second half deficit to defeat visiting Bridgewater State University, 3-2, on Thursday afternoon at Clark Athletic Center Field.

The Beacons kept their longest undefeated streak to begin a season alive as they improved to 5-0.

UMass Boston fell into a 2-0 deficit at halftime against a Bridgewater State team they had defeated in each of the past two seasons.

Bears' rookie Mackenzie Hatfield took advantage of a UMass Boston turnover in front of the net in the 25th minute as she scored her team-leading third marker of the season off an assist from Erica Jonasson. Emma Correia notched her first goal in a BSU uniform in the 40th minute as she knocked in a loose ball off a corner kick.

The second half was a completely different story though. UMass Boston outshot the Bears 14-3 in the final stanza, with nine shots on goal.

Alli Modzelewski gave the Beacons life with a goal at the 66:39 mark, when she headed in an Amanda Pugliese corner. Less than two minutes later, Krista Ledin evened the score. After Pugliese was taken down in the box to force the second Beacon penalty kick of the day, Ledin's shot just trickled across the line after BSU goaltender Kristen Rowe got a hand on the ball.

Rowe, BSU's senior captain and second half keeper, made six stops in the second stanza but allowed all three goals. Several of her saves were highlight-reel plays that kept the Bears in the game.  Kerry Condon played the first 45 minutes and made three saves while keeping the Beacons off the scoreboard.

The Beacons stunned the Bears in the 85th minute, when Sam Cristoforo received the ball from Ledin and used a soft touch off the side of her foot to land the ball on the near side of the net. It was Cristoforo's second goal in as many games and her third career game-winner.

UMass sophomore goalkeeper Kristen Spain moved to 4-0 on the season by making three saves on five shots.
