Women's Soccer Blanks Framingham State, 5-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Senior midfielder Jordan McDermott (East Bridgewater, Mass.) tallied two goals and two assists to lead the Bridgewater State University Bears to a 5-0 shutout victory over visiting Framingham State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's soccer action on Saturday at Swenson Field.

Bridgewater improves to 8-6-1 on the season and 3-2 in the MASCAC.  Framingham drops to 7-6-1 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play.

The Bears scored early and often with McDermott, senior forward Amber LaPorte (New Hartford, Conn.) and junior defender Jillian Herr (Saugus, Mass.) tallying first half goals.

LaPorte opened the scoring in the sixth minute as she found the back of the net off a rebound of a Carrie Robitaille (Ludlow, Mass.) shot.  McDermott made it a 2-0 game in the 20th minute finishing a nice cross from LaPorte.  Herr gave Bridgewater a 3-0 lead at the intermission ripping a shot from 25 yards out with 3:42 remaining in the opening stanza.  McDermott set up Herr's first goal of the season with a short cross.

Robitaille made it a 4-0 game just 1:04 into the second half as she lofted a shot from the right side over the goaltender and inside the far post.  The goal was the first of the season for Robitaille.  McDermott capped off the scoring in the 67th minute with her second marker of the game and fourth of the season with Herr and Robitaille picking up the assists.

Robitaille finished with a goal and a pair of helpers, while LaPorte and Herr each tallied a goal and an assist.

Framingham held a 20-13 shot advantage for the game while corner kicks were even at three apiece.

BSU netminders Kerry Condon (Whitman, Mass.) and Kristen Rowe (Burlington, Mass.) combined to make 11 saves.  Freshman McKenzie Vershon (Chicopee, Mass.) stopped seven shots between the pipes for the visiting Rams.

Bridgewater will host Plymouth State University in a non-conference tilt on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 PM.  Framingham entertains MASCAC foe Fitchburg State University next Saturday at 10:00 AM.
