Women's Soccer Blanks Salem State, 1-0

SALEM, Mass. --  The Bridgewater State University women's soccer team blanked host Salem State University, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at Salem's Alumni Field.

Bridgewater improves to 7-5-1 on the season and 2-2 in the MASCAC with their second straight conference win.  Salem falls to 5-5-3 overall and 0-2-2 in conference play.

The Bears looked like they would get on the scoreboard early in the game on a breakaway but Vikings goaltender Leah Potcner (Wilmington, Mass.) made a diving save to stop the shot.  The game would remain tied 0-0 until the 34th minute when Bridgewater State junior defender Melanie Thompson (Abington, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal off a free kick to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, Salem State had multiple opportunities to score off a loose ball in front of Bridgewater State's goal, but could not put the ball in the back of the net.  Casey Cresta-Devine (Saugus, Mass.) later crossed a ball in front of an open net, but the Vikings were again unable to connect.

BSU junior Kristen Rowe  (Burlington, Mass.) and sophomore Kerry Condon (Whitman, MA) combined to make seven saves in the shutout effort.  Potcner posted five saves for Salem.

Salem State's next game is a conference matchup at Westfield State next Saturday at 3:00 PM.  Bridgewater State plays again on their home field Wednesday night at 7:00 PM against Keene State.
