McDermott Leads Women's Soccer to 4-0 Win over RIC

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Senior forward Jordan McDermott (East Bridgewater, Mass.) tallied a goal and two assists to lead the Bridgewater State University women's soccer team to a 4-0 shutout victory over visiting Rhode Island College on Tuesday afternoon at Swenson Pitch in Bridgewater.

The Bears dominated throughout, outshooting the Anchorwomen by a margin of 53-4.  Bridgewater also held a 14-1 advantage in corner kicks.

BSU received a pair of first half goals from junior forward Molly Copeland (North Falmouth, Mass.) and senior forward Amber LaPorte (New Hartford, Conn.).  Both goals were headed in off corner kicks served in by McDermott.  Copeland's goal came in the fifth minute of play, while LaPorte scored in the 16th minute.

McDermott gave Bridgewater a 3-0 lead in the 65th minute as she hopped on a loose ball directly in front of the net and easily deposited a shot into the back of the goal.  Sophomore midfielder Emma Correia (Mattapoisett, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for the Bears in the 81st minute as she was also able to convert off a corner kick.  Correia found the ball at her feet after it was knocked around and rifled a shot inside the left post for her first goal in a BSU uniform.

Junior goaltender Kristen Rowe (Burlington, Mass.) notched her first collegiate win as she stopped one shot in 45 minutes of work.  Sophomore Kerry Condon (Whitman, Mass.) took over to start the second half and was credited with two saves.

RIC sophomore Abygayle Fisher (Exeter, N.H.) and freshman Audrey Maia (Norton, Mass.) combined to make 18 saves with Maia turning aside 12 shots.

Bridgewater (4-3) travels to Fitchburg State University on Saturday morning for a ten o'clock MASCAC contest with the Falcons.  RIC (2-5) takes on Little East Conference foe UMass Boston on Saturday at one on the UMass campus.
