WESTFIELD , Mass. – Junior forward Kayley Miller (Ludlow) scored two goals and junior forward Brittanie McGregor (Ludlow) had a goal and an assist to lead Westfield State University to a 4-1 women's soccer victory over Bridgewater State University in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference opener on Saturday, Sept. 17.
The Owls improved to 5-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the MASCAC. Bridgewater is 3-3 and 0-1.
Miller opened the scoring in the 14th minute after receiving a beautiful lead pass thru the box from freshman Ashleigh Chretien (North Attleboro).
McGregor assisted on the second goal, delivering a nice cross pass on a header goal by Courtney Wood (Whitinsville) in the 29th minute.
The Owls upped their lead to 3-0 four minutes later when McGregor scored from the 20 after receiving a thru ball from freshman Sarah Sypek (Westhampton).
Bridgewater got on the scoreboard in the 44th minute on a rebound goal by Molly Copeland (North Falmouth) after a free kick from Melanie Thomson (Abington).
Miller capped the scoring in the 55th minute with an assist from senior Heather Dragon (Westhampton) off a free kick.
The Owls dominated the statistics, outshooting the Bears, 23-7. Westfield also led in corner kicks, 7-0.
