Women's Soccer Blanked by UMass Boston, 3-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The UMass Boston Beacons blanked host Bridgewater State University, 3-0, on Thursday night in non-conference women's soccer action at Swenson Field in Bridgewater.

The visiting Beacons, who were playing in their fifth of six straight road games to start the season, improve to 3-1 overall.  The Bears slip to 3-2 as they were competing in their fourth game in six days.

Senior forward Kristin Mulry (Holbrook, Mass.), sophomore midfielder Kellie Gomes (Halifax, Mass.) and freshman forward Krista Ledin (Bridgewater, Mass.) all scored second half goals for the Beacons with Gomes' marker coming on a penalty kick.

UMass dominated throughout as the Beacons held a 22-3 shot advantage as well as an 11-1 edge in corner kicks.  The Beacons outshot the Bears in a scoreless first half by a margin of 8-1.

Freshman netminder Dani Perkins (Murrieta, Calif.) was forced to make just one save in the shutout effort for UMass.  BSU junior Kristen Rowe (Burlington, Mass.) stopped all four shots she faced in the first half.  Sophomore Kerry Condon (Whitman, Mass.) turned aside ten shots over the final 45 minutes as she suffered her first loss of the season.

Bridgewater State opens conference play on Saturday afternoon (3:00 PM) as the Bears travel to Westfield State University for a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) contest with the Owls.  UMass heads to Keene State College on Saturday for a one o'clock Little East Conference affair with the Owls.
