Women's Soccer Falls to Framingham State, 2-1

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Freshman Marissa D'Angelo (Whitman, Mass.) scored off a feed from sophomore Megan Gangell (Lee, Mass.) with 6:33 remaining in the game to propel the Framingham State University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory today in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's soccer action at Maple Street Field.

With the win, the Rams improve to 6-7 on the season and 3-2 in conference, while the Bears fall to 5-7 overall and are also 3-2 in the MASCAC.

The Rams wasted no time taking the lead.  Just 2:31 into the contest, senior Melissa Price (Norwood, Mass.) took a thru ball from sophomore Laura Gray (Chicopee, Mass.) and Price beat the BSU goalkeeper, who had come off her line, with a shot in the top corner giving the Rams a 1-0 lead.

The Bears would come back and tie the score in the 15th minute as sophomore Molly Copeland (North Falmouth, Mass.) sent the ball ahead to junior Amber LaPorte (New Hartford, Conn.).  LaPorte ended up behind the Rams defense forcing senior goalie Jill Johnson (Mansfield, Mass.) to come off her line and challenge.  LaPorte beat Johnson with a well placed shot in the corner of the net for the game tying goal at 14:54.

The Bears had a chance to break the tie in the opening minutes of the second half as LaPorte once again broke away from the Rams defense, but Johnson was able to make a diving save.

The Rams had a chance to score with 23 minutes left in the game, but junior Kerry Kiley's (Mansfield, Mass.) header sailed just over the cross bar.

The Rams maintained their offensive pressure and were finally able to score the deciding goal in the 84th minute as D'Angelo connected for the game winner.

Johnson finished the game with eight saves, while senior Kayla Grover (Haverhill, Mass.) made ten for the Bears.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday as they host the University of Southern Maine at 3:30 p.m., while the Bears travel to Plymouth State on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
