BRIDGEWATER,
Mass. -- Sophomore forward Emily Kuo
(Chicago, IL) tallied a pair of goals to lead the visiting MIT
Engineers to a 4-0 shutout victory over Bridgewater State
University in non-conference women's soccer action on Thursday
afternoon at Swenson Field.
The Engineers
improve to 7-2 on the season as they have won five of their last
six games. Bridgewater State falls to 3-5.
Senior midfielder
Laura Hernley (Elizabethtown, PA) opened the
scoring with her sixth goal of the season as she headed in a cross
from sophomore defender Andrea Park (Irvine, CA)
in the ninth minute of play. Kuo notched her first of
the afternoon in the 21st minute as she knocked in a loose
ball off a scramble in front of the net.
Kuo would give
the Engineers a 3-0 advantage with an unassisted tally, her sixth
of the year, in the 69th minute. Freshman
midfielder Rachel Dias Carlson (Albany, NY)
rounded out the scoring just over five minutes later as she
recorded her third goal of the season.
MIT held a 16-10
advantage in shots including a 9-3 edge in the second half.
Sophomore Meghan Wright Devon, PA) and senior
Katy Olesnavage (Ferndale, MI) split the
goaltending duties for the Engineers as they each played a
half. Wright registered three saves while Olesnavage
turned aside one shot.
Junior forward
Jordan McDermott (East Bridgewater, MA) paced the
Bears with four shots, with two of those on frame. McDermott
had the best scoring chance for Bridgewater in the 29th
minute as her shot from just inside the 18 sailed just
over the crossbar.
Bridgewater
travels to Worcester State University on Saturday afternoon (2:00
PM) for a key MASCAC game with the Lancers. MIT
travels to Smith College for a one o'clock NEWMAC match with
the Pioneers.
