BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Sophomore forward Emily Kuo (Chicago, IL) tallied a pair of goals to lead the visiting MIT Engineers to a 4-0 shutout victory over Bridgewater State University in non-conference women's soccer action on Thursday afternoon at Swenson Field.

The Engineers improve to 7-2 on the season as they have won five of their last six games.  Bridgewater State falls to 3-5.

Senior midfielder Laura Hernley (Elizabethtown, PA) opened the scoring with her sixth goal of the season as she headed in a cross from sophomore defender Andrea Park (Irvine, CA) in the ninth minute of play.  Kuo notched her first of the afternoon in the 21st minute as she knocked in a loose ball off a scramble in front of the net.

Kuo would give the Engineers a 3-0 advantage with an unassisted tally, her sixth of the year, in the 69th minute.  Freshman midfielder Rachel Dias Carlson (Albany, NY) rounded out the scoring just over five minutes later as she recorded her third goal of the season.

MIT held a 16-10 advantage in shots including a 9-3 edge in the second half.  Sophomore Meghan Wright Devon, PA) and senior Katy Olesnavage (Ferndale, MI) split the goaltending duties for the Engineers as they each played a half.  Wright registered three saves while Olesnavage turned aside one shot.

Junior forward Jordan McDermott (East Bridgewater, MA) paced the Bears with four shots, with two of those on frame.  McDermott had the best scoring chance for Bridgewater in the 29th minute as her shot from just inside the 18 sailed just over the crossbar.

Bridgewater travels to Worcester State University on Saturday afternoon (2:00 PM) for a key MASCAC game with the Lancers.  MIT travels to Smith College for a one o'clock NEWMAC match with the Pioneers.
