BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Junior Amanda deSousa (Dartmouth, Mass.) tallied the game's only goal as the Bridgewater State University women's soccer team posted a 1-0 shutout victory over Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) rival Westfield State on Saturday afternoon in Bridgewater.

The game marked the MASCAC opener for both teams.  Bridgewater improves to 2-3 (1-0 MASCAC) on the season while the defending conference champion Owls drop to 1-6 (0-1 MASCAC).

deSousa tallied her first goal in a BSU uniform in the 15th minute of play off an assist by junior forward Jordan McDermott (East Bridgewater, Mass.).  That goal would stand up the rest of the way as the Bears held on for the key conference win.

Senior netminder Kayla Grover (Haverhill, Mass.) turned aside three shots to record her first shutout of the season for the hosts.  Freshman Jess Habif (Holliston, Mass.) made two saves between the pipes for the Owls who held a 14-7 shot advantage for the game as well as a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

Bridgewater will travel to Rhode Island College on Tuesday night for a 6 o'clock match with the Anchorwomen.  Westfield heads to Eastern Connecticut State on Wednesday night to take on the Warriors at seven.
