Lamothe Eclipses Scoring Marks in 7-0 Win over Mass. Maritime

Box Score

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Kaitlin Lamothe (Wrentham, Mass.) netted a hat trick and an assist for seven points to set school single season records for goals and points as Bridgewater State claimed a share of the 2008 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference women's soccer regular season crown with a 7-0 league triumph over Massachusetts Maritime in the conference finale for both teams Saturday afternoon at Commander Ellis Field.

Lamothe's natural hat trick established a single-season goals mark of 20 in the victory for the visiting Bears (10-3-3, 6-1 MASCAC), and she also established a new school mark for points with 50, topping records previously set by Kathy Conley in 1992 for Bridgewater State.

Seniors Julie Sullivan (Whitman, Mass.) and Megan Williamson (Ludlow, Mass.) staked the visitors to an early 2-0 edge in the first 10:59 of action, while Lamothe's hat trick came in a 3:22 stretch in the opening half of play.  Senior Ashley Losi (Weymouth, Mass.) tacked on a pair of tallies in the 20th and 28th minutes, respectively, to close out Bridgewater State's scoring.  The Bears also received a pair of assists from junior Christine Soucy (Rockland, Mass.) as well as single helpers from Williamson, juniors Jacklyn Wisocky (Brockton, Mass.) and Kristina McSharry (Plymouth, Mass.), and sophomore Amanda Vigneault (Ludlow, Mass.).

Senior Ashley Spingler (West Springfield, Mass.) picked up her ninth win of the season in goal for Bridgewater State with one save on the day.  Freshman Colleen Fissette (Dracut, Mass.) made 18 stops in net in the setback for the host Buccaneers (2-11, 0-7 MASCAC), who wrapped up their inaugural varsity campaign with the contest.

The Bears recorded 45 of the 46 shots on goal for the match while also holding a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Bridgewater State will host a MASCAC semi-final match on Wednesday afternoon in Bridgewater.  The Bears are the second seed in the tournament and will take on Worcester State, Fitchburg State or Salem State depending upon the outcome of today's games.
