Women's Soccer Knocks Off Salem State, 4-1

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - On senior day at Swenson Field, senior forward Kaitlin Lamothe (Wrentham, MA) scored a pair of goals and added an assist to lead the Bridgewater State College women's soccer team to a 4-1 MASCAC win over Salem State this afternoon.

The Bears improve to 7-2-2 on the season and are now tied for first place in the conference standings with a 4-1 MASCAC mark.  Salem lost for only the second time this year as the Lady Vikings dropped to 11-2-1 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

Lamothe notched goals number 13 and 14 on the season less than four minutes apart to give BSC an early 2-0 lead.  After Salem cut the deficit to 2-1 before halftime, Lamothe assisted on Megan Williamson's (Ludlow, MA) goal just over one minute into the second half to give BSC the two-goal cushion.  Williamson headed in Lamothe's corner kick attempt for her fourth goal of the season.

Junior forward Amber Warnick (Wilmington, Mass) was the lone goal scorer for the Lady Vikings as she potted her second goal of the season.

BSC junior midfielder Christine Soucy (Rockland, Mass) rounded out the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 87th minute.  Soucy jumped on a loose ball at the 18 and drilled a shot over the Salem netminder's head for her second goal of the season.

Bear's senior keeper Ashley Spingler (West Springfield, Mass) was terrific in net with eight saves for the Bears as she improved her win/loss record to 6-0 on the season. Salem State freshman goalie Leah Potcner (Wilmington, Mass) turned aside five shots in the loss for the Lady Vikings.

With two goals and an assist, Lamothe increased her BSC career scoring total to 57 points (25 goals, 7 assists) in just two seasons.  She is currently sixth all-time on the Bears' career scoring list as she is closing in on Michelle Rhodes who recorded 60 points from 2001 to 2004. Williamson now has 47 points (19 goals, 9 assists) in her four seasons at BSC.  She is just one point behind Jeannie Rooney (1993-1996) and Jessica Chiachio (2004-2007) for seventh place all-time.

Bridgewater will now hit the road for the remaining five games of the regular season. The Bears' five-game road trip will begin at Plymouth State on Tuesday afternoon at 4:30.  Salem State will play against MASCAC rival Westfield State at home next Saturday, as they look to rebound from today's conference loss.
