Women's Soccer Drops 3-2 Decision to Westfield in OT

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Senior forward Jenn Leveille (Southampton, MA) notched the game-winning goal in the second overtime period to lift the visiting Westfield State College women's soccer team to a 3-2 win over Bridgewater State this afternoon at Swenson Field.

With their eighth straight victory, the Owls improve to 10-3 on the season and remain undefeated in MASCAC play with a 4-0 mark.  BSC falls to 6-2-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play as the Bears saw their six-game winning streak and eight-game unbeaten streak come to an end.

Leveille capitalized on a long ball that was deflected into the box.  With the Bridgewater goalie out of the goal and attempting to play the ball, Leveille calmly controlled the loose ball and knocked it into the unguarded net.

After spotting the Owls a 2-0 lead, Bridgewater got on the board in the 33rd minute of play. Junior midfielder Jacklyn Wisocky (Brockton, MA) scored on a long shot from about 30 yards out that bounced over the Westfield keeper's head and into the back of the goal.

The Bears finally evened the score at 2-2 in the 87th minute off the foot of senior midfielder Julie Sullivan (Whitman, MA).  After receiving a long pass in the corner from fellow senior Megan Williamson (Ludlow, MA), Sullivan dribbled past a Westfield defender and curler a shot just out of the reach of the Owls' goaltender.  A Westfield defender attempted to knock the ball away with her hand, but it had already crossed the goal line.

Sophomore forward Meg Gearin (Groton, MA) opened the scoring just over three minutes into the contest as she took advantage of a misplayed ball and drilled a shot past the BSC netminder. The Owls made it a 2-0 game as sophomore forward Kate MacLellan (Wilbraham, MA) converted a penalty kick attempt in the 28th minute of play.

Both teams took 23 shots in the game while BSC had a slight 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.  There were no offside calls in the game and the fouls were even at 12 apiece.

Westfield freshman keeper Jess Pieciak (Three Rivers, MA) made 11 saves to earn her tenth win of the season.  Pieciak was replaced by fellow freshman Brittany Beeman (Springfield, MA) in the 60th minute, but returned to play in the overtime periods.  Beeman registered two saves in the game.

BSC sophomore netminder Kayla Grover (Haverhill, MA) turned aside nine shots for the Bears.

Bridgewater will be back in action on Saturday as the Bears play host to MASCAC rival Salem State College at 11 AM.  Westfield will host Worcester State on Friday night at 7 PM.
