Women's Soccer Notches 3rd Straight Victory with 3-1 Win

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College women's soccer team notched their third straight victory as the Bears knocked off visiting MIT, 3-1, this afternoon in Bridgewater.

Along with the three consecutive wins, the Bears (3-1-2) are also unbeaten in their last five games since suffering a season-opening loss to Bowdoin.  BSC is now 8-5-2 all-time versus the Engineers (2-5) as the two teams have met every season since 1994.

Senior forward Kaitlin Lamothe (Wrentham, MA) tallied the game-winning goal in the 74th minute of play as she one-timed an outstanding pass from senior midfielder Julie Sullivan (Whitman, MA) and beat the MIT goaltender.  Lamothe's goal was her team-leading sixth of the season.

Megan Williamson (Ludlow, MA) added an insurance goal with just eight seconds left in the game as she got behind the MIT defense off a long feed from Lamothe. The goal was the first of the season for the BSC senior forward.

Bridgewater opened the scoring in the 38th minute as junior forward Ashley Hersey (Newburyport, MA) found the back of the net off a cross from junior midfielder Christine Soucy (Rockland, MA).

That lead was short-lived however as MIT freshman forward Alisha Lussiez (Livonia, MI) returned the favor just 29 seconds later.  Lussiez connected for her second goal on the year off a cross by sophomore midfielder Lauren Hernley (Elizabethtown, PA) to even the score at 1-1.

BSC senior goaltender Ashley Spingler (West Springfield, MA) made ten saves to earn her third win in as many starts.  Spingler was outstanding throughout as she limited the Engineers to just the one goal despite facing a number of quality scoring opportunities.

MIT senior netminder Stephanie Brenman (Newton, MA) registered five saves in goal for the Engineers.

The Bears outshot the Engineers by a margin of 19-15, while MIT held a 10-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Bridgewater will host MASCAC rival Westfield State College on Saturday at 1 PM.  MIT travels to WPI on Saturday for a 1 o'clock NEWMAC matchup with the Engineers.
