Wrestling Competes at Trinity Quad

HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Bridgewater State University wrestling team wrapped up the dual meet portion of the 2023-2024 schedule on Sunday at a quad hosted by Trinity College at Ray Oosting Gymnasium.

The Bears (3-13) dropped all three matches at the quad with a 48-6 setback to Rhode Island College as well as a 44-6 loss to American International College and a 46-9 setback to host Trinity.

Bridgewater went 3-0 out of the 184-pound weight class on the day. Junior James Grover (Wakefield, Mass.) pinned (5:12) RIC's Ethan Silva and added an 8-2 decision over Trinity's Dylan Sofield. Freshman Christian Curley (Bridgewater, Mass.) posted a 10-4 decision against Matt Brenner of AIC.

Grover is second on the BSU wrestling squad in wins with 12. The pin marked his team-leading sixth of the season.

Freshman heavyweight Michael Mastroianni (Milford, Mass.) earned a 4-0 decision over AIC's Hayden Gaudette while sophomore Hayden Garland (Saugus, Mass.) picked up a forfeit win at 197 in the match versus Trinity.

In upcoming action, several members of the BSU wrestling team will compete on Sunday, February 25th at the NEWA Futures Tournament hosted by Western New England University.
