Wrestlng Splits Pair of Matches at NYU Meet

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Bridgewater State University wrestling team split a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon at the John A. Paulson Center on the campus of New York University.

The Bears (3-10) dropped a 58-0 decision to the host Violets and bounced back with a decisive 42-12 victory over Hunter College. NYU was ranked 15th in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Dual Team Rankings.

In the 42-12 triumph over Hunter, the BSU grapplers recorded four pins and three forfeit wins. Sophomore Sei Dolomengi (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) earned a win by fall (0:26) at the 125-pound weight class while the Bears also received pins from sophomore Jonathan Clarke (Arlington, Mass.) at 141 (2:00), sophomore Vincent Player (Duxbury, Mass.) at 174 (1:14) and freshman Michael Mastroianni (Milford, Mass.) at heavyweight (3:48).

Mastroianni now has four pins in his rookie campaign. For Clarke, the win by fall marked the first of his collegiate career.

Sophomore 149-pounder Alex Guaman Castro (Milford, Mass.), freshman 184-pounder Christian Curley (Bridgewater, Mass.) and junior 197-pounder James Grover (Wakefield, Mass.) had their arms raised in the forfeit wins.

The BSU wrestling team is back in action on Sunday, February 3rd when the Bears travel to Trinity College for a quad meet.
