Wrestling Drops Pair of Matches at Wesleyan Tri

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- The Bridgewater State University wrestling team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon at a tri-match hosted by Wesleyan University at the Bacon Field House.

The Bears (0-3) dropped a 39-11 decision to WPI and were shutout by the host Cardinals, 54-0. Wesleyan was ranked ninth in the most recent New England Wrestlng Association (NEWA) Team Rankings while WPI was 14th and Bridgewater 16th.

BSU junior 165-pounder Michael Hopkins (Swampscott, Mass.) went 1-1 with a 15-1 technical fall victory over WPI's Ryan Hsu. Hopkins is now 7-3 on the season.

Freshman Joseph Cahill (Fountain Hills, Ariz.) picked up a win by forfeit against the Engineers.

The Bears are back in action next Saturday afternoon when they entertain Johnson & Wales University in a dual meet at noon. JWU was ranked ninth in the most recent Open Mat NCAA Division III Dual Meet Rankings.
