Chrispin Leads Wrestling at Scott Viera Open

BRISTOL, R.I. – Sophomore Malcolm Chrispin (Brookline, Mass.) captured the 133-pound weight class to lead the Bridgewater State University wrestling team on Saturday at the Scott Viera Open hosted by Roger Williams University.

Following an opening round bye, the top-seeded Chrispin cruised to a 15-0 technical fall win over #4 Shaun McLaughlin of host Roger Williams in the semifinals to advance to the championship bout. He then picked up his first collegiate tournament title with a 12-5 decision against #6 Charlie Pavis of WPI. Chrispin is now 13-6 on the season as he has won eight straight matches.

Sophomore Sei Dolomengi (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) was seeded second out of the 125-pound class and won his first two bouts. Dolomengi pinned (2:05) Josh Winiker of the University of Rhode Island and a posted a 13-2 major decision over Geddiel Lopez of Western New England University.  He then dropped a 14-9 decision to Mason Franklin of Johnson & Wales University in the semifinals and was pinned in the consolation semifinals to finish 2-2 on the day.

Sophomore Vincent Player (Duxbury, Mass.) posted a 2-2 mark out of the 174-pound weight class including a pair of technical fall wins over WPI's Alex Abrahamsen and Blake Theriaque of Roger Williams.

Freshman 184-pounder Christian Curley (Bridgewater, Mass.) opened the day with a win by fall over unattached Cole Wolkner and advanced to the semifinals due to a medical forfeit victory against third-seeded Jaylen Hawkins of Western New England. Curley lost by major decision to Jake Gerish of The College of New Jersey in the semifinals and bowed to #2 Cole Shaughnessy of Roger Williams by technical fall in the consolation semifinals to finish 2-2 on the day.

Junior James Grover (Wakefield, Mass.) went 2-2 out of the 184-pound weight class including a win by fall (4:19) over Western New England's Matthew Donis.

Freshman Adam Distasio (Hopkinton, Mass.) also picked up a pair of wins competing out of the 125-pound weight class.

The Bears are off until after the holidays when they travel to Wesleyan University on Saturday January 6th for a tri-meet with the host Cardinals and the Engineers of WPI.
