BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University wrestling team dropped a 43-3 decision to visiting University of Southern Maine in the 2023-2024 season opener on Friday evening at John J. Kelly Gymnasium.

The visiting Huskies (1-0) captured nine of the ten bouts including four pins and a dominant technical fall victory.

Junior Michael Hopkins (Swampscott, Mass.) picked up the lone win of the evening for the Bears (0-1). Hopkins earned a tough 2-0 decision at the 165-pound weight class.

Sophomore 149-pounder Colby Frost (Sleep Falls, Maine), freshman Derek Cote (Lebanon, Maine) at 174, sophomore AJ Robinson (Branford, Conn.) at 184 and junior heavyweight Nick Beebe (Brentwood, N.H.) earned the wins by fall for Southern Maine. Freshman Caden Frost (Sleep Falls, Maine) cruised to a 16-0 (4:16) technical fall victory competing out of the 141-pound weight class.

Both teams travel to Bristol, Rhode Island on Saturday, November 11th for the Roger Williams Invitational.
