BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior heavyweight Ryan Higgins has been selected as the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Wrestler of the Week.

Higgins posted an inmpressive 6-4 victory over regionally ranked Evan Anderson in the Bears' match with New York University this past weekend. Anderson entered the bout ranked fourth among the heavyweights in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Northeast Poll. Anderson was also previously undefeated against Division III opponents at 7-0 before losing to Higgins.

A native of Billerica, Massachusetts, Higgins is currently 9-4 on the season with two pins, 18 takedowns, two reversals and four escapes.

In 108 bouts over four seasons with the Bears. Higgins sports a career win-loss record of 74-34 (.685) with 29 pins, 154 takedowns, 52 near fall points, nine reversals and 61 escapes. He presently ranks 16th all-time at Bridgewater State in wins and tied for sixth in pins.

The NEWA Wrestler of the Week honor marks the first of Higgins' career.

The BSU wrestling team is back in action on Friday evening (5:00 PM) when the Bears travel to Rhode Island College for a tri-match with the host Anchormen and Trinity College.
